How many outfits do your kids go through per day? My kids dirty at least 3 outfits! Thats 21 outfits per week (per child!!) and so many of them have stains! I thought the newborn messes were the worst, and then I encountered the impossible stains of carrots, strawberries, orange juice, chocolate, dirt, and grass! When the store bought stain removers weren’t cutting the mustard (or cleaning it!), I set off to find the best DIY stain remover!
The ingredients are so simple! You probably even have them all at home right now. If not, I promise it’s worth the trip to the store! The best part: all of these ingredients are inexpensive and this DIY stain remover is far cheaper than the store bought version.
Ever wonder why hydrogen peroxide comes in a brown bottle? That’s because hydrogen peroxide is highly reactive to light and heat and will change it’s chemical properties and become ineffective. So be sure to store any left overs in a brown bottle and store it in a cool, dark place. You can purchase one here or you can re-use a hydrogen peroxide bottle.
If you do have left over stain remover (and you will if you follow this recipe), be sure to shake the bottle before using the stain remover on the next set of dirty clothes. Sometimes the sprayer will get clogged by the baking soda. Just soak it in hot water and it will be good as new!
This stain remover also works miracles on carpets, couches, and napkin stains as well! I have even used this on my oldest daughters stained clothes that have sat in storage for a year! No job is too small!
The Best DIY Stain Remover
These three ingredients can beat any tough stain!
- 1/2 cup Hydrogen Peroxide
- 1/4 cup Original Blue Dawn Dish Soap
- 1/4 cup Baking Soda
Rinse stain with hot water as soon as possible.
Pour the hydrogen peroxide, Dawn Dish soap, and Baking Soda and stir together.
Mix until blended.
Spray or pour stain remover directly onto stain.
Let sit for one hour.
Rinse with hot water.
Wash as normal.
Be completely amazed!
This stain remover works best with the Original Blue Dawn. It is the most effective option for tough stains.
As with any stain remover, first try on an inconspicuous spot to be sure it is safe for your fabric.
This stain remover will work miracles on most stains. If you don't see these results on the first try, repeat the process and try again.
For tough stains, use an old tooth brush to work the stain remover into the fabric.
