Your Family’s New Favorite Lasagna Recipe
Lasagna is a great dish to whip up when company is coming over for dinner. It ultimately ends up in one pan, and the bulk of the clean up is done before dinner even starts – my favorite part!
My husband’s family is in town, and my mother in law loves my lasagna. It’s the dish I try to make for her every time they visit.
My mom made the BEST lasagna. It was one meal that I didn’t argue about eating everything off my plate! I lost my mom 11 years ago (wow I can’t believe it’s been that long! I miss her everyday!) and I hope that my recipe compares to hers!
Lasagna is so easy! I don’t know why I wait for company to come as a reason to make it! Everyone knows that pasta is even better as left overs! So make this recipe to feed your family for at least two nights during the week! Even the pickiest “I don’t eat left overs” eater will devour it up!
I make my own (very easy) sauce for this recipe. It’s cheaper, but it’s also the way I get the flavor I love and don’t have the added preservatives of the jars. I get a large can of plain tomato sauce and add to it. It costs me just over $1! Tomato sauce is one of those things that I stock up on when they are on sale – a pantry staple! You could very easily substitute a jarred sauce, but I highly recommend adding a tablespoon or two of sugar to it. It really elevates the flavor!
Without any further ado, here is my recipe for lasagna that will have your whole family coming back for seconds!
Your Family's New Favorite Lasagna Recipe
For the Sauce:
- 29 oz canned tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp sugar
For the Lasagna:
- 1 box lasagna noodles, cooked and rinsed Rinsing your noodles in cold water will prevent them from sticking together.
- 32 oz Ricotta cheese
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 16 oz Five Cheese Italian shredded cheese Substitute mozzarella if your grocery store doesn't carry the Five Cheese blend.
- 1 lbs mild Italian sausage, cooked and drained
- 1 pack mini pepperoni
- 1 tbsp parsley for topping, optional
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium sauce pan, combine the tomato sauce, garlic, sugar, and Italian seasoning. Cook over medium-low heat until warm.
In a 9x13" pan, add a couple of ladles of sauce to the bottom of the dish as a base. This will prevent your bottom noddles from becoming dry.
In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, Italian seasoning, and 1/2 cup of shredded cheese together. Adding flavor between layers is key with any dish!
Start with a layer of lasagna noodles.
Add dollops of ricotta cheese on top of the noodles. I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as too much cheese!
Sprinkle sausage over top.
Add mini pepperoni.
Ladle the sauce on top.
Top with grated cheese.
Repeat until ingredients are gone!
To finish, add more sauce and grated cheese to the top. This will prevent dry pasta on your top layer.
Sprinkle with parsley. (Optional)
Cook covered for 45 min. Then remove foil and cook for an additional 15 min to melt the top layer of cheese.
Serve with a salad and garlic bread (or skip the salad all together!) and ENJOY!
You can absolutely use your favorite jarred pasta sauce in this recipe. For me, my favorite sauce is homemade!
I hope your family loves this lasagna recipe as much as mine does! Try it out and come back and leave a comment!
