Advice for My Daughters…
Right now, you think I’m the smartest person in the world, but I know there will come a time when you think I know nothing about anything. I have had many more trips around the sun than you have, and I hope you will take my advice.
Always remember how beautiful you are. I know this harsh world will sink its talons into you and cause you to doubt your beauty. Don’t pick yourself apart in the mirror. For everything you don’t like about yourself, there are a million people who wish they had it.
Have thick skin. Don’t worry what others say to you and about you. Their opinion doesn’t matter. Some people are unnecessarily cruel. Don’t let them bring you down.
Do not be afraid to love. You will be better for it.
Be confident in the person you are. Be different. Be silly. Be you. Don’t let your insecurities impede your path.
Love yourself and know how much you are loved by others.
Get out of your comfort zone. Explore your curiosities. Don’t look back and think “I wish I would have…”
Try not to be quick-tempered. You will experience a happier life if you don’t waste your energy being angry.
Don’t hold grudges. People change and grow. Don’t allow past experiences be the only way you see someone. Don’t forget what happened, but forgive them for it. Learn from their mistakes.
Know that I am always here for you. I may not always agree with you, but I will always support your decisions and give you my best advice. I will always keep your secrets and be here to listen. I will never stop loving you.
Be courageous enough to stay true to your values. Do what you know is right and don’t let anyone pressure you into anything less.
Don’t let your feelings be hurt too easily. As much as I wish I could prevent it, you will have your feelings hurt and your heart-broken. Let the lessons you learn from those situations shape you in a positive way.
Surround yourself with positive people. Positivity is contagious.
Remember how strong you are. You will fall down. Get up and dust yourself off. Hold your chin up and learn from your experience.
Your life is your journey. I can’t do it for you and I can’t protect you from all of the evils of the world. But I can guide you and support you along the way. I always have and I always will. I know that you will teach me things along the way too.
