15 Must Watch Christmas Movies For The Whole Family
Watching a good Christmas movie really puts me in the spirit for the holidays! We love putting on our PJs and snuggling under a cozy blanket with some popcorn and delicious Frozen Hot Chocolate Mix while watching some of our favorite Christmas movies. Sorry, y’all! We live in South Florida! It’s 85 degrees in December. So we drink COLD chocolate and crank the air conditioning down to get into the holiday mood! (Don’t be too jealous, it’s hot and humid here all year round! In our “winter” season, it’s just a little less hot and a little less humid.)
I feel like every year I forget about some of the best Christmas movies! I put this list together to help to remember the must-watch Christmas movies every year!

15 Must watch Christmas movies for the whole family:
This is the movie that plays for hours non-stop on Christmas Day on tv, but then there are commercials and all the bad words are taken out. No fun! My dad and I love this movie. Several years ago, I bought him this mini leg lamp and he bought me a Red Ryder air rifle. It’s a Christmas decoration that stays out all year (the lamp, not the gun)! This holiday movie follows the wintry exploits of Ralph who spends most of his time dodging a bully and dreaming of what he wants for Christmas, a Red Ryder air rifle. Often at odds with his cranky dad but comforted by his doting mother, Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas Day in his bunny suit. “Don’t shoot your eye out, kid!”
If you are Will Farrell fan, this is a must watch! “The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear!” In this movie, after wreaking havoc on the North Pole due to his gigantic size, Buddy travels to New York City in full elf uniform in search of his real father. A DNA tests proves who his real father is, and Buddy and his father attempt a relationship with increasingly chaotic results.
KEVIN!!!! Every year, my husband laughs so hard at this movie he cries. “Keep the change, ya filthy animal!” Kevin’s family mistakenly leaves for Europe with out him and he wakes up to find his Christmas wish to have no family has come true. He has to learn to take care of himself and also hysterically try to protect his family’s home against two con men trying to break in. Home Alone 2 is another good one!
Pretty much all through December, I refer to my husband as “Sparky”. As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he finds the biggest tree and the most elaborate Christmas lights. His house is full of family, including his cousin with his camper and slobbering dog, and his company doesn’t give him the holiday bonus he expected. This is definitely a must watch! “Shitter’s full!”
I absolutely loved this movie when I was a little girl! Kris Kringle fills in for a drunk Santa at the Thanksgiving Day parade and takes on the role of Santa a department store. Soon, customers and employees believe that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and more importantly, his authenticity.
This is a great one for the adults! When plans for an exotic vacation fall apart, a couple must spend Christmas Day visiting all four of their divorced parents. There is much to relate to and laugh about in this movie! My husband and I just watched this one again last weekend during nap time and woke our kids up laughing so hard!
Another childhood favorite!! When a man mistakenly scares Santa off his roof and kills him, he is magically recruited to take his place. Does anyone else remember Tim the Tool Man Taylor? Tim Allen is definitely a childhood throw-back for me! The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3 are worth watching, too!
This is such a sweet movie! A super conservative business woman accompanies her boyfriend home for Christmas where she meets his eccentric and outgoing family for the first time and feels like an outcast from their free-sprites ways.
A Christmas classic! Based on the comic strip Peanuts, this movie made its debut in 1965! Charlie Brown finds himself depressed despite the cheerful season, and Lucy suggests he direct a Christmas play, but not without obstacles. After Linus tells Charlie Brown about the true meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown cheers up, and the Peanuts gang unites to celebrate the Christmas season.
This sweet Christmas movie follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.
Another funny Tim Allen Christmas movie! A couple decides to skip Christmas for the first time in decades, causing an uproar with their neighbors. They find themselves having to decorate at the last-minute due to an unexpected guest.
This is such a great adaptation of Charles Dickens’ story! Ebenezer Scrooge is haunted by ghosts that Scrooge on a journey through his past, present and future in the hope of transforming his bitterness.
I watch this at least once every season! In this movie, two women swap homes at Christmastime with broken hearts. They both fall in love during the swap and must deal with the possibility that their imminent return home may end their relationships. This is my favorite “chick flick” holiday movie!
14. Polar Express
Polar Express is an inspiring adventure based on the beloved children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. The special effects in this movie are fantastic!
In this adaptation of the beloved children’s tale by Dr. Seuss, the reclusive green Grinch decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantly joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos.
Well, there you have it! That completes my list of must watch movies during the holidays! I’d be lying if I said I’ve never watched a few of those in the middle of the year as well!
